JANUARY MEETING MINUTES
James called the board meeting to order at 6:45 PM. Present were James Van Ornum, Barbara Southern, Gary Litteer, and Larry Pratt. We reviewed the calendar for 2012, potential meeting topics, and the state of the 2011 budget. The 2012 budget will be discussed at the February board meeting. The board meeting was closed at 7:10 PM.
James called the general meeting to order at 7:30 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag followed by people introducing themselves. The attendance sheets and CVARS Sunday 8PM Net Controller sheet were passed around.
Announcements started with a review of the 2012 calendar, which can be viewed on the cvars.org web site home page. It was suggested that we have an active display at the Spring Youth Fair in May and/or the Southwest Washington Fair in August. We’ll look into the details for the February meeting.
The $15 2012 dues for individuals and families are due by the end of February. For those who are interested, the $25 2012 dues for the Baw Faw repeater group are also due (see the bawfaw.org web site for details).
Potential program topics were presented.
The program was presented by James Van Ornum. He talked about his experiences with radio, progressing from Short Wave radio Listening, licensed as a novice which expired in a year, relicensed as a novice and technician several years later, and finally licensed as general after changes in license requirements and viewing the excitement of PSK31 digital communications.
Six of us expressed an interested in advancing the Extra Class and will work as a study group towards that goal. The Extra Class question pool changes on July 1, 2012!
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45PM. There were 17 people attending.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
CVARS exists for people who are interested in amateur radio. Our monthly meetings provide a chance to socialize with folks who share this interest AND to be a part of a program that informs and stimulates. Sometimes the topics may be a reach or difficult to understand or seem to not be relevant, and sometimes they introduce a new aspect of ham radio. There may be some topics that are better handled with a short term or long term special interest group – like the ARES group or the Extra Class study group or the packet workshop group.
I ask that you talk with Barbara Southern about each program we present. Let her know what you liked, what you didn’t like and what you would like to hear in the future. Vote by discussing the programs, not by dropping out of the club!
